COMMUNITY SERVICE

I volunteer 15 hours each semester within the Lawrence community. I do community service with Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Big Event, and the Kansas Scholastic Press Association.

For Ronald McDonald House Charities, my sorority Alpha Delta Pi hosts a 5K run and a lemonade stand every year. I attend and help host these events to raise money for Ronald McDonald House Charities. I also visit the local Ronald McDonald House a few times each semester to help cook a meal for the families staying there.

I volunteer with The Big Event, a service project intended to bring the University of Kansas community closer to the larger community of Lawrence. The Big Event hosts two events throughout the year: The Big Event and the Mini Big Event. I have volunteered my time at both annually for the past three years.

I also volunteer for the Kansas Scholastic Press Association (KSPA) as much as I possibly can. KSPA is a high school journalism contest hosted at the University of Kansas. I competed in KSPA when I was in high school, and now I volunteer for KSPA as a college student. At the regional and state KPSA contests, I proctor contests, judge entries, sort and organize files, enter data into a spreadsheet and live tweet contest results. I have volunteered at every KSPA contest for the past 3 years.
